According to the Brazilian Inter-ministry Committee of Global Climate Change, the management of animal waste is a very important issue, which needs to be addressed.
The inadequate management of animal waste treatment systems is very frequent in Brazil. Besides causing deep environmental consequences, such odors and water/soil contamination (including infiltration, drainage and excessive application) also contribute for the increase of greenhouse gas emissions. |
Nevertheless, it is possible, in this specific segment, to develop CDM projects for the treatment of animal waste through the implementation of biodigesters, which capture and burn the methane generated by the animal feces, substituting the open digesters formed by anaerobic treatment lagoons, where the methane is directly emitted into the atmosphere.
CDM projects in this segment can be implemented in both the production units (slaughter) and the breeding units (henneries, farms).

JMalucelli & CMC Ambiental´s team has a vast experience in this area, and can advise its clients in the conception and elaboration of a CDM project as well as in the certification process according to the Kyoto Protocol. Even more, they are prepared to help with the financial structure itself, with the possibility of promoting an anticipated sale of future carbon credits, for the amortization of costs of the engineering process, the necessary equipment, the civil constructions, and the certification process.
